Blacktip Swim School Port St Johns

We have been super busy recently with a lengthy visit to KwaZulu-Natal, which was exciting, inspiring and exhausting all at the same time. But its been amazing working together!!!!!!

Blacktip Swim School in Port St Johns is even closer to becoming a reality now for Nqobile Jojo & Philani Msungubali. They both attended their swim instructor practical training with Lauren Roberts from Swim Dynamics which encompassed the following:

Learning HOW to teach children to swim
Showcasing their own swimming abilities in a 50m heated pool
20 hours of logging hours with different swim schools & swim instructors in KwaZulu-Natal

Nqobile & Philani now look forward to their final written examinations & practical examination, which will take place in Port St Johns within the next few weeks.

The 50m heated swimming pool in KwaZulu-Natal brought a huge smile to their lips daily, we couldn’t keep them out of it!!! There was any excuse to jump in….

We cannot thank Lauren and her team from Swim Dynamics http://www.swimdynamicssa.co.za/ enough for a thoroughly incredible training course, attention to detail, amazing assistance given to the guys and for being there 24/7 to assist in whatever way has been required. Simply amazing!!!

Both Nqobile and Philani are looking forward to starting their own swim school in Port St Johns and their visit to KZN has shown them just how the sky is the limit and beyond that.

We are super proud of these guys and cannot wait to see this swim school open for the community of Port St Johns.

Blacktip Swim school update

Offshore Africa is SO excited to announce that FINALLY!!!!! the start of Blacktip Swim School in Port St Johns is on track and swimmingly happening….

We are involved in some amazing projects within our community and as much as all of them are important, our superbly talented life guards that are soon to become Learn to Swim teaching instructors can now kick off the first phase in a 3 part phase.

The online theory has now been completed at our base here in Port St Johns and in November the guys head up to KwaZulu-Natal to complete their practical training and internship at other swimming schools.

We are super proud of Nqobile Jojo, Philani Msungubali & Siyamcela (Spin) Goniwe, who are now the founders of Blacktip Swim School here in Port St Johns. The first locally owned, run and managed swim school soon to open its doors in our town.

Take a look at our community projects page link in the beginning of this news feed and you will see that there are other phases that will be linked to phase 1.

We would be so grateful for any donations that you may be able to offer to further not only the Blacktip Swim School project but also the PSJ Rescue Diver development project, which is Phase II and Phase III going forward.

PSJ Diver Development

The further development of these amazingly brave and talented individuals is deeply important to us, to our town and for their individual futures.

Each time there is an emergency in the river, SAPS divers from East London are called in to assist, which is a 5 hour drive from Port St Johns.

These 4 men are local life guards with a passion for water and for people.

As these men have limited scuba diving training behind them, the Offshore Africa team of dive instructor / skippers are assisting in a community project to further develop their training, further their water experience, dive knowledge and dive training to be in a position to assist further. The aim is that these trained individuals would fill the gap of being able to attend to an emergency immediately instead of waiting for 5 hours for SAPS divers to arrive from East London.

We are seeking additional funding to get Philani, Nqobile, Azolile and Siyamcela fully trained and experienced as Rescue Divers and to introduce them to sharks, diving with sharks and an in-depth understanding of sharks for the areas that these guys will work in. Further on-site training will also take place in zero visibility diving for river rescue work.
