Offshore Africa is super proud to launch “The Beast” V8 air boat, which is only the 2nd air boat in South Africa to offer river tours.

The air boat compliments Offshore Africa’s already comprehensive fleet existing of Offshore 1 dive boat and Bobalong 30 seater river cruise barge.

The air boat is fast and maneuverable and can get into and through shallow water, to places never before navigated.

The speed of the air boat makes for an exciting river trip like none other.

It is an adrenalin rush coupled with a new way to see the river and it sure will bring a change of hairstyle too!!

Further information to follow soon…………………………..so watch this space.

When being out on the ocean is not a possibility on the day but the weather is clear, a trip to Luphuthana is a must do.

Just getting there is an adventure in itself.

Approximately 1.5 hours drive from Port St John’s and the drive is absolutely worth it and more.

Spectacular scenery as one bypasses Magwa Tea Plantation and as one heads down towards the sea, the magic starts………..

Getting there by 4 x 4 is preferrable as one never knows what the rain may have done to the road, which is gravel.

Luphuthana in all it’s glory………………..one can start the Water Fall Bluff hike from here at Drifters Camp or simply hang out here and enjoy the waves smashing up against the rocks. Little rock pools are all over the place and there are shady spots to relax and picnic underneath.

The Waterfall Bluff hike is not a difficult hike to do from here and from a time frame perspective, easy to do and then head back for lunch or a late afternoon snack.

One needs to find out from the locals which path to take to head to Waterfall Bluff as there are a few.

The scenery northwards towards Grosvenor is also spectacular.

For those that love hiking, scenery, nature, or just chilling, Luphuthana is the place to be.

It is like you are in another world…….truly beautiful, quiet and paradise to visit.

Umzimvubu River Port St John’s, with a bit of foam flow this morning, which means inland areas have had some good rainfall. Very good news indeed.

We had around 32mm of rainfall here a few days ago and the foam flow seen this morning in the Umzimvubu River is the result of fairly decent rainfall in the catchment areas inland.

The red float that is seen in the picture is our listening station, which picks up sharks and fish that have satellite tags in them. This gives us a good indication of movement in the river, especially by the Zambezi sharks (Bull sharks) that have been tagged.

We strongly encourage catch & release practice to be done by all fishermen

The Umzimvubu River is a sanctuary for Zambezi Sharks. Each year the females give live birth in the river mouth and their young spend at least 2 years of their young lives in this river system, becoming familiar with moving in and out of fresh and salt water systems. An open river system is vitally important for this and is an incredible event of Nature that has taken place as far back as one can remember.

As river systems are closing up to the ocean due to silting, it reduces the number of available healthy river systems that Zambezi (Bull) sharks can make use of each year.
