Sardine Run 2016

Sardine Run 2016 bookings are in full swing.

Some trip dates are already fully booked and others have spaces available.

If you are keen to experience an ocean experience that changes daily, sometimes hourly, the months’ of June/July and into August are spectacular months for ocean sightings.

As an ocean adventurer,  there is so much happening in the same place and at the same time.

June/July/August sees the annual humpback whale migration pass our coastline, heading northwards to the warmer waters of Mozambique & Tanzania. Each day is a different day and there are some days that we cannot count the amount of whale activity as they are just everywhere. As early as September, but more than likely October, November and early December ( if one is lucky to sight them this late), these incredible acrobatic and musical humpback whales can be seen passing our coastline once again, heading back southwards and homeward bound to Antarctic.  This is almost 6 months of humpback whale activity……………………..

We have different species of dolphins frequenting our waters during this time of the year i.e. our resident pod of bottlenose, common, spinner & humpback ( if you are lucky to catch a quick glimpse of these dolphins).  There are days that we experience a super pod of hundreds upon hundreds of common dolphins, all communicating between themselves, and speeding together in the same direction, making the ocean look like a massive wind is upon it.

Then there are the different shark species that can be encountered at any time i.e. bronze whalers (coppers), Blacktips,  Mako, Tiger, Bull, Great White, Dusky to name but just a few species.

And the chance of seeing Orca’s, or Cape fur seals and penguins…………..all having been sighted before along this coastline.

And let us not forget all the birdlife i.e. Arctic Skua, Wilson’s storm petrel, White chinned petrel, Commorant, Yellow nose Albatros, Cape gannets and so the list continues………….

The ocean here is alive this time of the year and is an experience unmatched for all ocean lovers.
